Libro: Cradle to Cradle
Cradle to Cradle (de la cuna a la cuna - rediseñando la forma en que hacemos las cosas) es un libro que pretende incentivar una nueva revolución (después de la revolución industrial) donde la industria, la sociedad y el ambiente se conjugan en un triángulo que pretende balancear estos tres poderes con el fin de diseñar productos efectivos más que eficientes.
Los autores, el diseñador William McDonough y el químico Michael Braungart, logran en este libro mostrar una visión innovadora sobre cómo enfrentar el antagonismo entre desarrollo industrial y cuidado del medio ambiente. Personalmente creo que el libro entrega un nuevo paradigma de diseño con una visión positiva y oportunista del concepto de sostenibilidad y de la realidad que estamos viviendo hoy en día con el deterioro de nuestro planeta.
El libro muestra varios ejemplos de los cuales los autores han sido partícipes (e.g. Ford, Nike, entre otros) que están lentamente comenzando a formar parte de esta nueva revolución.
En el libro se critica lo que en la actualidad se entiende como reciclaje; ellos más bien lo llaman downcycle pues el producto "reciclado" siempre se entiende como de menor calidad que el original. Ellos con su nuevo paradigma introducen el concepto de upcycle con el propósito de lograr productos reciclados de igual o mayor calidad que los originales. Un ejemplo (en marcha, no aún perfecto) es el mismo libro Cradle to Cradle que ha sido impreso (la versión inglés solamente) en "papel" sintético hecho de resinas plásticas y rellenos inorgánicos, que se ve y se siente como un papel de alta calidad e incluso ¡resistente al agua! Este libro simboliza el inicio de libros sintéticos que se podrían usar, reciclar, y volver a usar sin perder su calidad.

El libro es muy bueno, da una nueva perspectiva a los eco-people, y situa en contexto a los diferentes tipos de reciclaje (el común = downcycle) y el optimo que es el upcycle.
Ahora, el libro tiene algunos años.. sería interesante saber que ha pasado con estas nuevas definiciones en el mundo del ecologismo y saber si permearon o no.
Por otra parte, ¿habrá alguna empresa que esté haciendo productos upciclables?
