Diseño Sociable - Don Norman
¿Qué significa qué un sistema sea diseñado para ser sociable? Don Norman está por lanzar su último libro que escribe sobre esto. Durante una charla en la Academia de Diseño en Eindhoven Holanda, Don nos dió una pincelada de su nuevo libro.
Diseñando para grupos
Por un lado Don recalca la importancia de diseñar para grupos, donde el entorno de todo el grupo afecta el diseño de un producto o servicio. Si vamos donde nuestra ejecutiva de cuentas quedamos sentados detrás de un monitor y expuestos a una maraña de cables; al mirar desde la ventana de un piso alto en un edificio solo vemos techos de horrible apariencia.
Diseñando para actividades en un contexto
Nuestro mundo se forma de actividades que están formada por varias tareas específicas que no son casos aislados, no ocurren en un vacío. Si voy a cocinar, mi propósito no es solo afilar el cuchillo, cortar vegetales, aliñarlos y servirlos. Mi propósito es disfrutar de una cena agradable junto a mi familia. Pero no tenemos herramientas que nos ayuden a esto propósitos más generales. No existe herramienta de cocina por sofistacada que sea que apoye los propósitos más generales, todas están diseñadas para solucionar tareas de bajo nivel.
Diseñando para que las interacciones sean más entendibles
En nuestro mundo nos guiamos en base a natural signifiers, aquellas señales que están a la vista y nos ayudan a entender nuestro alredor. Por ejemplo, el moviemiento de una bandera izada me dice cuan calmado o tormentoso está el tiempo afuera (sin tener que ir a weather.com). Cuando leemos un libro buscamos el término de parráfo o capítulo para demarcar donde quedamos y así facilmente retomar más tarde la lectura. Un ejemplo con tecnología que Don comenta es cuando el termina su día laboral y cuidadosamente arregla las ventanas en su escritorio del computador con marcadores para retomar a la mañana siguiente en lo que está trabajando. Pero resulta que su ‘poco sociable’ sistema operativo decide actualizarse a media noche para instalar ‘importantes’ parches de seguridad. Lo que sucede a la mañana siguiente es que él llega a su escritorio y encuentra una pantalla vacía (sin sus ventanas abiertas) y con un ‘amable’ mensaje “su sistema a instalado cruciales actualizaciones”. Ni un mensaje de disculpas por haberle destruído su ambiente de trabajo.
Mensaje final
Un Sistema diseñado para ser Sociable no significa que tiene que hablarnos (un perro no habla y es sociable). Tampoco significa que tiene que decir “por favor” y “gracias”. Ser sociable requiere interacción, comportamientos que nos hagan sentir cómodos, a gusto. Ser sociable se basa en cuatro temas claves: comunicación, apariencia, apoyo a grupos, y apoyo frente a errores.
Anécdota:El libro inicialmente se llamaría "Sociable Design", pero su publisher lo encontró aburrido y ahora lo está reescribiendo bajo el nombre de "People are from Earth, Machines are from Outer Space". Hasta las eminencias son vulnerables a las garras del editor!
